Barun Sobti (SOBE-te; born 21 August 1984) is an Indian actor best known for his roles in the television series Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (2011-2012) and Asur (2020-present). His age is 38 years.

He began his acting career in 2009 with the Star Plus show Shraddha and later played a villain in Dill Mill Gayye. In Sony TV’s Baat Hamari Pakki Hai, he played his first lead role (2010). Sobti rose to prominence in 2011 as Arnav Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. He made his film debut in the romantic comedy Main Aur Mr. Riight (2014) and has since appeared in movies such as Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2017), 22 Yards (2019), Halahal (2020), and 200 Halla Ho (2021). He has also appeared in Disney+ Hotstar’s Tanhaiyan (2017) and ALT Balaji’s The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family (2018). He also narrated Durjoy Datta’s audiobook “The Last Boy to Fall in Love” for Audible.

Barun Sobti was born in Delhi, India on August 21, 1984 to Raj Sobti and Veenu Sobti. Sobti attended St. Mark’s School in New Delhi’s Paschim Vihar neighbourhood. He spent seven years as an operations manager at Jindal Telecom before moving into the entertainment industry.

He met his wife Pashmeen Manchanda for the first time in school, and after a long-distance relationship, Sobti married Manchanda in a private ceremony in a Gurudwara on December 12, 2010. Sifat, the couple’s daughter, was born in 2019.

Following Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor, he was named the third Sexiest Asian Man by UK magazine Eastern Eye.He was also ranked second in the Gazette Review’s list of the World’s Most Handsome Men in 2017-2018, trailing only Chris Evans.

Television

Sobti made his lead acting debut as Swayam Khurana in Star Plus’s Shraddha in 2009. Later, he appeared as Dr. Raj, a medical intern with a drug addiction, in the popular medical show Dill Mill Gayye.Sobti played the carefree, rich, and spoiled Shravan Jaiswal in Sony TV’s Baat Hamari Pakki Hai from 2010 to 2011.In 2011, Sobti rose to prominence as Arnav Singh Raizada, a business tycoon in Star Plus’s Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? in place of Sanaya Irani It was one of the most popular shows at the time. The show was cancelled in 2012 due to Barun’s absence from the show due to health issues. The final episode aired on November 30, 2012.

Films

Sobti made his film debut in 2014, opposite Shenaz Treasury in the romantic comedy Main Aur Mr. Riight.

It received mixed reviews from critics, though Sobti was praised for his performance.

While reviewing the film, Letty Mariam Abraham of Bollywood Life stated, “Without Barun, there is clearly nothing to see in the film and thus recommended only if you are a Sobti fan.” According to Paloma Sharma of Rediff, Barun Sobti outperforms his co-stars in the acting department.

Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2016), directed by Milind Dhaimade, was Sobti’s second feature film and premiered at festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival, and Cannes Film Festival, among others. The film received favourable reviews. Dhaimade is clearly skilled at creating life-like characters who feel as if they are people you could know, tics and all, according to The Indian Express. ‘Tu Hai Mera Sunday’ is a lighthearted, feel-good story.
