Dresser mirror vs floor mirror – pros and cons

Do you know what kind of bedroom mirror you are looking for? There are a wide variety of mirrors available, but the most common for the bedroom are floor mirrors or dresser mirrors. Of course, you can get mirrors that mount on the wall, but when it comes to being able to see your full profile (or most of it), a floor mirror or a dresser mirror are the best options.

Which type of mirror you choose depends on how you will be using the mirror, and what other bedroom furniture you already have. Here are a few things to consider for each, and how to make the right choice for your bedroom.

Why the debate?

There are two primary arguments you will hear in this debate. One side will claim that a dresser mirror is far superior because it saves space. The other side will claim that a floor mirror is better, especially if you are adding it to a pre-existing bedroom furniture suite. Of course, there are many pros and cons to both, and the right solution for you may not be the most popular. Like with most debates, it all boils down to preference.

Floor mirror pros and cons

A richly appointed floor mirror can give your bedroom a sophisticated or luxe flair that all your friends and family will envy. Most of them rest on a base that allows the mirror to pivot, which makes it much more versatile than a stationary mirror mounted on the wall or back of the door. Yet it still allows you to see your entire profile.

A bonus feature of some floor mirrors is hidden jewelry armoires. Some floor mirrors have built-in hidden jewelry storage for rings, necklaces, bracelets, and more. Dresser mirrors aren’t likely to have that feature.

On the other side of the argument, floor mirrors can take up a lot of space. You’re not just giving yourself room for the mirror’s base, you are giving it room to pivot, and room to move around it. If your bedroom is already crowded with furniture, a floor mirror just doesn’t make sense.

Dresser mirror pros and cons

A dresser mirror can be a much more practical solution for adding a mirror to your bedroom. When you get a mirror that mounts to the dresser, you aren’t taking up any additional space. And most mounts for dresser mirrors allow it to pivot the same as a floor mirror. You won’t be able to see your full silhouette, but most people of average height will be able to see from the top of their head to well below their waist.

For the most part, that is really all one needs. In addition to the perk of not taking up additional space, a dresser mirror is also cheaper than floor mirrors. If you really want to make sure that you can see your full form when necessary, add a cheap dresser mirror mounted to the back of your bathroom door for additional savings.

Of course, if you don’t have a dresser upon which a mirror can be mounted, the point is rather moot. However, you can also get a new dresser that comes with a mirror for about the same price as a floor mirror alone. That means you’re much better off getting the dresser with a mirror if you have the space for it.
