Cannabinoids have been used medicinally for thousands of years. They originated in Western China, where they were used to treat a vast array of health problems.
Fast forward to today and they’re just as popular. Take CBD, for instance, it can help those with pain, anxiety, and depression.
CBN is another example. Also known as cannabinol, it’s similar to CBD in that it doesn’t produce a “high.”
What is CBN good for? Is it as effective as CBD?
For the answers, be sure to keep reading! We’ll be going over some of the main CBN benefits below.
1. It May Help Reduce Inflammation
CBN is similar to CBD in that it also has anti-inflammatory effects; it does this by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid receptors. Studies have also shown that it may help reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the body.
Given that, it’s not surprising to know that it can help those with rheumatoid arthritis. This is supported by one study in which CBN reduced inflammation associated with arthritis in rats.
It may also benefit those with other inflammatory conditions such as Crohn’s disease. However, more research is necessary to determine its capabilities in humans.
2. It May Have Neuroprotective Properties
CBN may help delay the onset of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neuromuscular disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
This was demonstrated in one study in which subcutaneous CBN delayed the onset of symptoms without affecting survival.
Not only that, but it may also promote neuroprotection of cells in the retina in addition to normalizing intraocular pressure. This makes it a potential therapy for those with certain ocular diseases such as glaucoma.
3. It May Provide Pain Relief
CBN has analgesic effects and may help those with chronic pain; it does this by altering the signals that the brain receives. For example, it may help those with fibromyalgia and other musculoskeletal conditions.
And there’s more than one way that you can use it. For example, you can apply a liquid phase CBN extract directly to the affected area. If anything, that’ll lower the risk of side effects as it’ll bypass the digestive system and liver.
You can also take it orally by placing CBN oil under the tongue. That way, you’ll experience the CBN effects even faster.
Additionally, you can combine it with CBD for a stronger analgesic effect. While it won’t be as strong as other cannabinoid combinations, it’ll be non-intoxicating.
What Is CBN and How It Can Help You
Hopefully, that answers the question, “what is CBN good for?” As you can see, it can potentially benefit your health in several ways. As with all supplements, however, it’s best to talk to your doctor first before giving it a try.
