Is There A Difference Between Botox And Dermal Fillers?

When you first start to notice the lines and wrinkles on your face that come as you age, you’ll have one of two reactions. You either won’t mind them at all and forget about them, or you’ll want to do something about them.

If you fall into the second category, your research may well lead you to a couple of choices, those being either Botox or dermal fillers (especially if you’re looking for a non-surgical option). However, it might be hard to decide between these two types of procedures, especially if you’ve never had anything done before. With that in mind, read on to find out what the main differences are between Botox and dermal fillers so you can make the right choice when it comes to starting your antiaging treatments.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a form of botulinum toxin that has been created by bacteria but that has been made safe to use in humans. Not everyone is aware of this fact, and it can be off-putting, but remember; if you have Botox carried out at the hands of a professional like those at dermani Medspa, you don’t have anything to worry about.

Botox works by blocking your muscles’ nerve signals in the site where it is injected (perhaps the forehead or side of the face, for example). When this takes place, the muscles can no longer contract, and when they are relaxed, the skin over them can soften and the lines and wrinkles will no longer be visible. The great thing about Botox is that it only takes around ten minutes to do, and the results usually last for around three to four months.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Much like Botox, dermal fillers are injections that help to deal with wrinkles – they do so by adding volume to your skin rather than paralyzing the muscles. When having fillers, a thicker gel-like material is injected under the skin, and this essentially fills in the wrinkles. A lot of fillers contain an ingredient called hyaluronic acid which adds moisture to the area and keeps it looking fresh and plump. They will also contain polylactic acid, which helps the body make more collagen, increasing the skin’s elasticity (which also reduces wrinkles).

Botox And Dermal Fillers: The Difference

Although both Botox and dermal fillers are done using injections under the skin, and both offer antiaging results, they are quite different. It would help if you considered a few things when deciding between them.

To begin with, Botox is most effective when it comes to wrinkles in the top half of the face, in the forehead and around the eyes area. That’s because Botox does not fill the wrinkles like fillers do but instead relaxes the muscles so the skin can sit better over them. Essentially, Botox prevents wrinkles, whereas fillers – as the name suggests – fills them. If you have a lot of deep wrinkles, fillers might be the answer. However, if you only have fine lines and want a temporary solution, Botox is likely to be a better choice.
