What to Do After a Rear-End Accident?

After a car accident, it’s always important to check in with yourself. You may feel shocked and confused because the accident happened so fast. Make sure the other driver behind you is okay, too. It’s important to make sure you are both okay.

The next step is to survey the situation around you. If there are any witnesses, ask them to stay behind.

Everyone involved in the accident should move to safety right away. Some people may keep driving, especially if you’re on a busy highway. If possible, move your car onto the side of the road.

If you can’t move your car to safety, turn on the hazard lights. Move yourself and your passengers, away from the crash site.

Call the police right away after an accident. The police should receive notice… even if it’s a minor accident.

Take as many photos of the accident as possible. You will need to send these to your insurance company. Don’t forget to take pictures of the car that hit you.

Who Do I Call?

Notifying your insurance provider after an accident may seem like an afterthought. But you should notify them immediately and make sure you have car insurance coverage. There’s no time limit for when you should call your insurance company, but the sooner, the better.

A good rule of thumb is to call your car accident lawyer within 24 hours of the accident. Follow any requirements and timelines outlined in your insurance policy.
