Sectional Garage Doors

Let’s start with the most common type of garage door, the sectional garage door. These overhead doors have a linear design and are made of two sheets of steel with insulation in between. Sectional garage doors are usually completely automatic and open and close by going straight up and down. When open, the door is parallel to the roof of the garage. As such, they are space-saving and easy to operate. Unfortunately, these are also among the more expensive garage door options and are susceptible to component failures. Regular maintenance is therefore very important garage door repair illinois.

Roll-Up Garage Doors

A roll-up garage door is like the sectional garage door in that it opens and closes by going straight up and down. The roll-up garage door does not have horizontal tracks, however. Instead, the steel or aluminum slats roll up into a barrel at the top of the door. This garage door is therefore ideal for garages with low indoor heights or when space is valuable. You can choose between those with insulation and without insulation. However, the roll-up garage door is limited in design options and is not quite budget-friendly.

Tilt-Up Garage Doors

Also called the up-and-over garage door, the tilt-up garage door consists of a single piece, usually made of steel, wood, PVC, or fiberglass. The door runs vertically on its tracks and tilts up and down as a whole, and about a third of the door protrudes from the plane of the garage’s front wall. Tilt-up garage doors are quick to install and use old-but-gold technology. Also, fewer components means a smaller chance of failure. However, these have poor insulation and require manual operation. They can also be dangerous if the model does not include an anti-drop device.

Swing-Out Garage Doors

If your property is spacious and you are looking for something aesthetic, then the swing-out garage door might be for you. This type of garage door is similar to standard doors except that they swing outward. Though usually manually operated, the swing-out garage door can be made automatic. These fashionable doors are usually made of wood with higher end options made of polystyrene, which offers better insulation and protection from moisture and humidity. As you might have guessed, these are on the higher end of the price range.
